Program
The Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) of 2008 dramatically changed the testing and certification landscape for manufacturers, importers, and private labelers. The law applies to every product that is subject to a Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) enforced regulation. Today the law requires a copy of General Conformity Certificates (GCC) and Children’s Product Certificates (CPC), be available upon request.
These formalized program requirements present significant changes with added requirements such as, but not limited to, remedial actions, tracking material changes, and the creation and storage of testing and product related documents. For retailers, the requirements pose challenges for determining if products on their shelves are compliant.
As the manufacturer or importer of record, you may not ultimately take on ownership or responsibility for all of these requirements but it is your responsibility to ensure with a high degree of assurance that someone in your supply chain does.

While toys are clearly intended for children, it is less clear which non-toy products will need to be considered for third-party testing. Using our age grading, product classification and consumer product experience, we can guide you to the appropriate classification of your product and which third-party tests are required. As an accredited laboratory, we can also provide the third-party testing documentation required by CPSIA for all toy, juvenile and children’s products.
