The International Organization of Standardization (ISO) has published two amendments for
ISO 8124.1:2018 in June 2020.
Amendment 1 is for flying toys and amendment 2 is for various changes.
Amendment 1: Flying Toys
• Revise section 4.19 from "rotors and propellers" to "flying toys", as rotor blades on non-flying toys, or those that rotate in the vertical plane on flying toys, do not present the same risk of contact with eyes or face and so not covered by 4.19.
• Definition for "flying toy" & "remote-controlled flying toy" are added
• Requirement reference EN71-1 flying toy with some modifications.
Amendment 2: Various
• New section 4.36 Assembly is introduced, with the duplicating requirement related to "assembly" within the standard was deleted
• Add toy bag definition in section 3.88
• Revise expanding material requirement and test method to follow ASTM F963, an additional gauge test with an expanding toy test template were introduced.
• Section 4.5.1.1 was rewritten to exempt "rigid element having a major dimension equal to 30mm or less"
• Section 4.11.3.2 was revised that the warning in B.2.23 would be required on toy's packaging only.
• Section 4.11.3.3 was revised by specifying the method for cord length measurement.
• Section 4.12.2 was revised by adding 5.24 reasonably foreseeable abuse tests to evaluate whether the safety stop or locking device shall not become partially or fully disengaged.
• Section 4.18.3b and section B.2.15 are updated that the word "Warning" is no longer required and "Do not aim at eyes or face" is changed to "instruction requirement" instead of "warning requirement".
• "the tile shall have a hardness of 80 shore A" was deleted from section 5.24.2 drop test.
• Feeler gauge requirement was added to section 5.24.6.1 to determine whether the toy is graspable.
• Additional test method and pictures are added in section 5.24.6.1 to make sure the force vector to be kept substantially perpendicular to the original orientation of the test component.
• "Driven wheels and other parts of toys" was added to E.21 to make the scope clearer and to align with ASTM F963-17 section 4.18.1
• Editorial revisions in section 4.18.4, B.2.23.
