CPSC Publishes Direct Final Rule for Non-Full Size Cribs and Play Yards

On Wednesday October 23, 2019, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) staff published within the Federal Register a Direct Final Rule for 16 CFR Part 1220, Safety Standard for Non-Full Size Baby Cribs and 16 CFR Part 1221, Safety Standard for Play Yards. Both 16 CFR 1220 and 16 CFR 1221 will now reference ASTM F406-19, Standard Consumer Safety Specification for Non-Full Size Baby Cribs/Play Yards as mandatory with several editorial modifications.

16 CFR 1220 previously referenced ASTM F407-17 as mandatory. In reference to rigid Non-Full Size Cribs, the ASTM F406-19 contains a revision on the evaluation for a toehold hazard plus additional editorial changes

16 CFR 1221 previously referenced ASTM F406-13 as mandatory. In reference to Play Yards, the ASTM F406-19 contains several changes including a revision to the evaluation for mattress vertical displacement, a revision for the evaluation for play yard accessories, and other test clarifications and editorial revisions. 

This Direct Final Rule will become effective January 20, 2020 unless the CPSC receives any significant or adverse comments.
