CPSC Publishes Direct Final Rule for Children’s Folding Chairs and Stools

Apr. 2 2020

On Wednesday April 1, 2020, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) staff published within the Federal Register a Direct Final Rule for 16 CFR Part 1232, Safety Standard for Children’s Folding Chairs and Stools. 16 CFR Part 1232 will now reference ASTM F2613-19, Standard Consumer Safety Specification for Children’s Chairs and Stools as mandatory with no modifications.

The previous version of the 16 CFR 1232 referenced the ASTM F2613-17a with no modifications. The 2019 version of the ASTM F2613 includes changes to the section for scissoring, shearing, pinching and products that fold, a force requirement for latching/locking mechanisms, plus other minor editorial revisions.

This Direct Final Rule will become effective July 6, 2020 unless the CPSC receives any significant or adverse comments by May 1, 2020.
