CPSC Publishes Direct Final Rule for Carriages and Strollers

Aug. 5 2019

On Friday August 2, 2019, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) staff published within the Federal Register a Direct Final Rule for 16 CFR Part 1227, Safety Standard for Carriages and Strollers. Therefore, 16 CFR Part 1227 will now reference ASTM F833 - 2019, Standard Consumer Safety Specification for Carriages and Strollers as mandatory with no modifications.

The previous version of the ASTM F833 safety standard that was referenced as the federal requirement was the 2015 with no modifications. The 2019 version of ASTM F833 added a test requirement for a tray/grab bar protective covering and also included several other editorial revisions.

This Direct Final Rule will become effective November 5, 2019 unless the CPSC receives any significant or adverse comments.
