On Thursday November 18, 2021, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) staff published within the Federal Register a Direct Final Rule for 16 CFR Part 1227, Safety Standard for Carriages and Strollers. 16 CFR Part 1227 will now reference ASTM F833-21, Standard Consumer Safety Performance Specification for Carriages and Strollers as mandatory with no modifications.
The previous version of the 16 CFR 1227 referenced the ASTM F833-19 with no modifications. The F833-21 version includes a clarification on the type of floor that the stroller is to be tested upon, a revision to the brake release performance requirement test, plus other minor editorial changes.
This Direct Final Rule will become effective February 15, 2022 unless the CPSC receives any significant or adverse comments by December 20, 2021.
