BV Webinar: Data Privacy, Cyber-Safety and Cyber-Security for Consumer IoT - December 18

California’s data privacy law will be in effect in January 2020, which will require all "connected devices" to utilize a "reasonable security feature." We will provide insights on how some companies are approaching compliance with product testing and supplier declarations to NIST’s preliminary draft of the “Privacy Framework: A Tool for Improving Privacy through Enterprise Risk Management.” We’ll introduce the framework and briefly discuss GDPR. 

In 2019, the office of CPSC Commissioner Elliot F Kaye published “A Framework of Safety for the Internet of Things: Considerations for Consumer Product Safety.” The document is a compilation of considerations for designing safer connected products, providing insights manufacturers can use to reduce possible hazards associated with connected devices. We will review elements of the framework that apply in general or to product categories.

Across the globe, concerns about cyber-security are growing. We will introduce some of the regulations, industry standards and voluntary / private schemes to address this risk. From Japan’s telecom law, to Taiwan’s information security for smart phones, to the US wireless communications industry’s cyber-security certification for IoT devices, we will introduce the attributes of cyber defenses that can be applied to connected products.

We will review these requirements in our webinar and take questions from attendees.
