Bureau Veritas Consumer Products Services Proactively Supports Reduction of Microfibre Release
In July 2021 Bureau Veritas CPS became a signatory of The Microfibre Consortium (TMC)
"The Microfibre Consortium (TMC) facilitates the development of practical solutions for the textile industry to minimise fibre fragmentation and release to the environment from textile manufacturing and product life cycle. The organisation presents the opportunity to align globally as an industry through its connection through its member base at the brand, retail, supplier, research, industry organisation and policy level. This cross-industry connection expedites understanding and reduces the possibility of repetition of research. This collaborative approach allows more extensive understanding, and progress to levels of understanding that would be unattainable in a stand-alone organisation."
TMC provides the opportunity to align as an industry and translate deep academic research, with the reality of commercial supply chain production, offering a solution to signatories in the retail and supplier industry; ultimately promoting the greater good of our ecosystem.
As a signatory Bureau Veritas CPS is working with the TMC to build an understanding by contributing to their research data on fibre fragmentation, reducing fibre fragmentation by adopting mitigation actions, driving progress by participating in task groups and scaling global uptake.
Bureau Veritas CPS laboratories in Guangzhou (China) and Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam) have been accredited for The Microfibre Consortium Test Method v1.0 2019, which is a test to evaluate the amount of fibre fragment release into water after domestic laundering with the ability to compare levels of fragment release between different products.
On the 21st September 2021, The Microfibre Consortium will roll out its road map using the data which has been collected from its signatories and will define a clear plan to reduce the amount of microfibre in our ecosystem.
