BSI Flex 5555 Community Face Coverings Specification v2.1

The standard on minimum performance requirements and test methods for community face coverings is designed to help UK manufacturers and testing houses to ensure single-use and reusable face coverings are safe and fit for purpose. 

Version 2 contained enhanced information on labelling, cleaning, fit, fastenings and breathing resistance, and a new clause on environmental considerations.  

Version 2.1 is an update, focused on introducing changes to the filtration efficiency requirements and the material filtration efficiency test. 

• Filtration efficiency requirements to meet the bacterial filtration efficiency (BFE) requirements for Type 1 masks as per BS EN 14683:2019, Table 1 when tested in accordance with tested in accordance with BS EN 14683:2019, Annex B. 

• The particle size for filtration tested in accordance with the sodium chloride test method in BS EN 13274-7:2019, Clause 6 has been specified as (3.0 ±0.5) µm;
